We work with one program: the VA Foreign Medical Program (FMP)
FMP is the VA program that pays for health care U.S. veterans receive outside the United States — but only for VA-rated, service-connected conditions, conditions the VA determines are associated with them, and certain care under the VR&E program. It is not general health insurance, and it does not cover everything a VA hospital would.
What that means for your medications: if a prescription treats a service-connected condition, FMP can cover it in full — and because we bill the VA directly, you pay nothing. If it doesn’t, FMP won’t pay for it, and we will tell you that before you spend a colón.
How to check what you’re covered for
Sign in at VA.gov → Letters and download your FMP benefits letter. It lists your covered conditions. Send us a photo of it on WhatsApp and we’ll take it from there.
Not sure if FMP applies to you?
That’s normal — most veterans have never heard of FMP until they move abroad. Message us and we’ll help you figure out where you stand. If you’re eligible, we’ll walk you through the registration (Form 10-7959f-1) step by step, at no charge and with no obligation.
Veterans Pharmacy Costa Rica is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or any U.S. government agency. The Foreign Medical Program is administered solely by the VA — confirm your personal coverage with the VA.
